Product Description

The2FunAdGuyz offer a new, high-quality reproduction print of a late 1800s Labor Union poster for the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Originally organized as Brotherhood of Railroad Brakemen the name was changed in 1890 indicating that this poster was probably done in the last decade of the 1800s. The Union continued throughout the first half of the twentieth century, expanding by representing other components of the railroad industry and eventually organizing interstate bus companies. In 1961 the union joined forces with four other unions to form the United Transportation Union.

This print extols the virtue of joining The Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen through a series of eight small panels and a series of ribbons proclaiming union ideals—Benevolence, Sobriety and Industry. The union was organized to offer some protection for workers killed on the job, but quickly expanded to safety and work issues including wages.

This print offers a beautiful portrayal of both the ideals and the history of one of America’s great railroad unions.
