Using a modern, art deco influenced approach, the artist, Frank Whitely, creates a simple image that still evokes all the terror of the original Grimms’ version with an obviously new visual take. This is an update to the centuries old tale of what happens when children enter the dark and mysterious forest. This wolf is close, the teeth are bared and Little Red Riding Hood clutches the basket--only slightly visible--beneath her cloak.

ARTIST: Frank Whitley did the original for the Illinois state Workers Progress Administration (WPA) in 1939.
