This followed the Siege of Petersburg and would have been just a few days before the surrender of Robert E. Lee. Petersburg was approximately twenty miles from Richmond. Andrew J. Russell was the photographer.

The caption at the bottom reads Union Soldiers Pull A Fire Engine From The Petersburg, Virginia Artillery Garage In April 1865.
