The2FunAdGuyz offer a new print of a vintage 1906 Rowing Crew Photograph featuring a race between Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania.

In this case it is the Junior Eights at the one-and half-mile mark. The notes from the photo did not indicate which team is The University of Pennsylvania and which is Cornell; we only know they were the two teams pictured.

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE: The photo captures the excitement surrounding competitive collegiate rowing just after it passed into the twentieth century.

DESCRIPTION: Here is a very rare rowing crew photograph from 1906. What is amazing is the large number of boats—including a large paddle steamer called the Frontenag—following and watching just inside the frame of this photo. There were many more boats outside the frame of this shot and thousands of spectators lining the shore. What a pleasant way to spend the day—made even more pleasant if your team won.

ORIGINAL MEDIA: An original glass negative was used to create the image for this new print. You should note that because of the age and size of this enlargement there is some darkening along the left and right sides.
