The2FunAdGuyz offer a new, 11” x 17”, Civil War Confederate States of America (CSA) Recognition of Service record, which descendants of soldiers of the Confederate States of America Army can use to produce a memorial record of the soldier’s service. Additional prints are available to create additional records for other members of the soldier’s family. Partially derived from an 1896 lithograph, our artist has added new, copyrighted artwork that creates a rich presentation to honor your ancestor. This stunning presentation allows you to enter the name of the soldier, his dates of service, company and regiment. There is an “Honor Roll of Battles” that allows a record of up to thirteen battles. You can do the personalization yourself, or you can have a calligrapher do it for you. Either way, this is a magnificent way to memorialize a soldier’s sacrifice.
We have created this Recognition of Service for people who wish to create a memorial document for themselves or family members, or for Civil War re-enactors who wish to create a history of their reenactment activity. It is not based on, or intended to be, an official record of civil war service.
Printed on a golden, parchment-like paper, this remarkable Recognition of Service features portraits of twelve civilian and military leaders (identified by script written on a small ribbon banner underneath each portrait) of the CSA and a montage of CSA icons, building and flags. All this surrounds a central scroll with a Recognition of Service so you can enter the details of your ancestor’s service.
At the top center are bust portraits of (l) Jefferson Davis, President of the CSA, and (r) Alex H. Stephens, CSA Vice-President. Laurel and garlands surround these portraits.
On the left side of the document, starting at the top and in descending order are General Robert E. Lee, Major General J. E. B. Stuart, Lieutenant General J. B. Gordon, Commodore M. F. Maury and Admiral Ralph Semmes. On the right side of the document, starting at the top and in descending order are Lieutenant General T. J. “Stonewall” Jackson, Lieutenant General Wade Hampton, General G. T. Beauregard, Major General Sterling Price and Lieutenant General N.B. Forrest. Each oval contains a small ribbon banner at the bottom with the name of the person appearing in that oval.
Beneath the ovals and to the left and right of the scroll are 4 full-color flags of the Confederacy. The top left flag is the first official flag of the Confederacy, called the "Stars and Bars" with seven stars. On the lower left corner is the second national flag of the Confederacy, called the "Stainless Banner". In the upper right corner is what most people today identify as the Confederate flag. In fact, it is actually the Navy Jack or one of the variations used by 184 CSA military units. The flag on the lower right is the third national flag, adopted March 4, 1865, just before the fall of the Confederacy. It is the nearly the same as the second national flag save the red bar on the right side. That additional red bar was added so when hanging limp it did not appear like a white flag of surrender.
Those same four flags appear in a cluster at the bottom of the scroll. To the right of the flag cluster is the seal of the Confederate States of America and on the left is a Confederate Veterans medallion. At the bottom, left corner is a line drawing with the caption “State Capitol Building-designed by Thos. Jefferson-Used by Confederate Congress”. At the bottom, right corner is a line drawing with the caption “Jefferson Davis Mansion, Richmond, VA.—occupied by our President and family During the war. NOW USED AS A CONFEDERATE MUSEUM.”
At the very bottom, center—just below the cluster of flags—are two battlefield drawings with captions. The drawing on the left has a caption that reads “ENGAGEMENT BETWEEN MERRIMAC & MONITOR.” The drawing on the right has a caption that reads FIRST BATTLE OF MANASSAS.”
What is particularly rich about the certificate is the central scroll with text to record the name of the soldier. Our artist has created a spectacular color background featuring a painting of the beloved General Robert E. Lee, atop his horse, leading his troops into battle. That artwork, printed very lightly, creates a rich background for the bronze-colored text to record a soldier’s service. That bronze colored text allows you to personalize the record for your soldier. Set in an ornate script, it reads as follows:
