Product Description

The2FunAdGuyz offer a new, sepia toned reproduction print of an 1865 photograph showing official mourners – some wearing morning suits with top hats and some wearing police or firefighter uniforms—on the morning of the Springfield, Illinois funeral for President Abraham Lincoln. These mourners stand just to the left of a building that holds special significance for Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln. The building houses the Globe Tavern, a combination Tavern, Boarding House and restaurant. The Lincolns spent their honeymoon night here and lived for almost 2 years. Their first son Robert Lincoln was born here. They lived in a second floor room that measured 8’ x 14’ and took their meals in the common dining room. Many of the other residents were also newlyweds. They paid $4 a week for the room.

The Globe Tavern unfortunately was not preserved.

Photographer: Samuel Montague Fassett, Chicago, took this and several other photographs of the President’s funeral stop in Chicago, and the final funeral stop in Springfield, where the President was interred.

PAPER QUALITY: This new print is on a highest quality, acid-free, 100-pound glossy premium text paper that allows for maximum color brilliance and fidelity for older images.

Image Size: 16.5 inches wide by 10.5 inches high.
