ARTIST: Ellen Clapsaddle did the artwork on the original postcard on which this print is based. Clapsaddle was a New York state native and was responsible for thousands of illustrations, many used on postcards at the turn of the twentieth century. She attended several schools including the Cooper Institute in New York City. For a number of years she taught art to private students before selling some of her work for use by postcard companies. Clapsaddle moved to Europe to work for the paper companies that were purchasing her art. She worked for several post card companies, but lost her money by investing in one of them. Her later life was tragic ending with her broke and mentally ill in a hospital. Her works are the most charming of any artist of the era.
