Every few years a new technology replaced an older one. Horse-drawn fire wagons gave way to motorized car, fire trucks and fire engines. Steam Pumps meant greater capacity to deliver water faster. Searchlight trucks were used for fighting at night and in very smoky fires. Ladder trucks reached higher and higher as buildings grew taller and taller. In the end, however, the bravery and skills of the firemen were still the essential ingredients in successful fire department, large and small.
