Product Description

The2FunAdGuyz offer a new print of a 1936 poster produced as part of the WPA Federal Arts Project. This poster was the last of four posters (all of which are available in our store) that tracked the history of the New York Fire Department (FDNY) from its founding in 1656. This poster summarizes the fire fighting advances made through 1936. A fire engine is shown behind the silhouettes of four firefighters who are preparing to start a water hose. Ladders and streams of water can be seen extending up the sides of a burning skyscraper.

The headline reads: “History of Civic Services in the city of New York. Fire Department No. 4.”

The Caption at the bottom reads: “Up-To-Date Machinery, Efficiency, Speed.”

The text box on the right reads: “Modern fire fighting equipment effectually prevents the spread of fires. But today the prevention of fires is especially emphasized by strict regulations enforced by rigid inspections by the fire department.”

Vera Bock, a popular book illustrator, was the artist.

PAPER QUALITY: This new print is on a highest quality, acid-free, 100-pound glossy premium text paper that allows for maximum color brilliance and fidelity for older images.
